The brief

Every Blue Sky Studio project begins with listening.

“We love our kids, but we all need our own spaces — and we need this house to keep up with us.”
The owners of Carter Avenue

About the project

A modest family home grown into a proper one — a rhythmic rear addition, a new master suite, and a dining room that finally hosts the whole family.

Carter Avenue began as a well-built but modestly scaled family home. The owners weren’t looking to move — they were looking for room to let everyone in the family have a little more of themselves, without losing the house’s character.

The redesign added a quietly rhythmic rear addition, expanding the dining room, rebuilding the kitchen, and introducing a proper master suite above. The new volume picks up the massing language of the original house so carefully that, from the street, the difference reads only as better proportion.

At dusk, the house now presents with the confidence of a home twice its size — while continuing to live, very deliberately, as the same warm family home its owners first fell for.

Project features

  • Rhythmic rear addition with master suite
  • Rebuilt dining room and kitchen
  • Conserved original front elevation
  • Dusk-lit exterior and refreshed landscape
